You might know some basics of “Vedanta” and want to deepen your understanding, or perhaps you have never come across this term. If the concept of harmony regardless of demographic categories is something that peaks your interest, then you must visit the Belur Math in Howrah, headquarters of the Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission, which promote the Vedanta movement.


Founded by Swami Vivekananda, the institution follows the teachings of Sri Ramakrishna, a 19th century Bengali saint. Within the forty acres compound, there are various temples you can visit for prayer and meditation, or for those of you who want a closer look at the life of the founder, you can see the room where Swami Vivekananda lived the last few years of his life and eventually gained Mahasamadi (enlightenment). There is even a museum to better understand the life of the saint and his followers. Make your way to Belur Math with the surrounding peace, and understand the true meaning of Vedanta.
