Ierapetra, Greece
Belegrina Beach

Across the shores of Ierapetra lie the gold crowned emerald gems on Chrissi Island, boasting of the best beaches in Greece, the Belegrina.

Most visitors are likely to frequent the popular Fragou Mnima Beach upon landing on Chrissi Island but we would suggest that you head towards the taverna visible from the dock. A foot path should appear towards the left, winding beneath the willowy branches of the kedros, or Greek junipers abundant on the island. 10 minutes later you will find the path widening out towards an endless expanse of pale blue, its colors seeping into the sand at its feet. Also known to many as Golden Beach, the Belegrina’s sandy shores are second to none as you dig your feet into the smooth grains. Dense juniper woods mark the farthest point of the beach, giving the perfect backdrop for photo hounds to capture snapshots of this Mediterranean paradise.

The Belegrina is best for some splashing wet fun as you go for a short swim with a few food outlets available to satiate the hunger that is bound to set in after. Although campers abound the Chrissi, visitors are advised against this given the multitude of endemic plants and animals that the island serves as sanctuary to. That said, a day trip is sufficient for you to soak in the sounds of bird calls echoing against that of waves gently washing in, immersed in the beauty of Belegrina.

Tips Before You Go
Although sun beds and towels are up for rent along the beach, these are often snatched up before you can blink in addition to being fairly overpriced. It might be a wise decision to bring along that spare beach umbrella instead to set up at a spot to your liking so that the serenity of the Belegrina can be fully appreciated.
