Belasco Theatre

Get the homely feel of a small theatre in one of New York’s most prestigious venues.

Located in 111 West 44th Street in midtown-Manhattan is a Broadway theatre like no other. While many other theatres aspire to be grand and gargantuan, the Belasco Theatre is a breath of fresh air off the beaten path. The theatre was opened by David Belasco - producer-director, and playwright, who was also the first person to adapt the short-story "Madame Butterfly" for the stage. When the performance commenced in 1907, it was originally named the Stuyvesant, but Belasco renamed it after himself in 1910. Belasco had a vision for his theatre – he wanted to give it an intimate feel, so he adopted the neo-Georgian style, which was usually used for homes. As such, the audience is made to feel that the space between them and the performers is reduced. That's not to say that the theatre has not hosted fantastic performances. In fact, famous actor Ralph Fiennes has graced the staged in their production of Hamlet! Ensure that you switch off your handphones, as the use of electronic devices during performances is prohibited.
