Beehive

An iconic, parliament building in New Zealand’s history.

Affectionately named the Beehive, this iconic Kiwi building, which possesses a modern facade of ascending layers (giving it major beehive vibes), is the home of the country’s Parliament Executive Wing building. With an incredible history behind its existence, all those passionate about history would definitely not want to miss this place.

First established in the 18th century when the Parliament shifted from Auckland to Wellington, nothing of the original building still remains. However, at the turn of the century, British architect Sir Basil Spence designed the Beehive, which was received controversially. But as the saying goes ‘the rest was history’, and as such the building stands proud against the azure New Zealand skies today, now hailed as an incredible national landmark and a source of national pride. The Beehive is open to visitors to enter and behold its beautiful interiors, whilst learning about the history of the place, the local government, how the country’s Parliament functions, and how its legislation is created. An informational and educational experience, don’t just stop by this picturesque place for a photo-op! Learn more about how New Zealand operates from this treasure trove of knowledge - it definitely will not be an afternoon wasted!
