Named after the Aboriginal fires spotted by Captain Tobias Furneaux, the Bay of Fires Conservation Area promises an exciting day for those who come to explore hidden coves and spot wildlife within what was once a flourishing Aboriginal community which still bears the marks of its very first inhabitants.


Treat yourself to stunning views of sandy white beaches and crystal-clear waters surrounded by impressive slabs of granite dyed bright orange from lichen, where you can swim, snorkel or surf. If you would rather be at a quiet spot engrossed in your thoughts, the Bay of Fires also has a wealth of hidden small, secluded beaches. You can also venture further inland to try and catch a glimpse of local wildlife. For those willing to rough it out, the conservation area also has several camping sites where you can spend the night immersed in nature.

Tips Before You Go
As you wander around, you might stumble across several middens – piles of discarded bones and shells. These have been deliberately left behind by the area’s Aboriginal residents so be careful not to disturb these historical relics. With so much to explore within the Bay of Fires Conservation Area, you might be at a lost on where to go. Essentially, your potential starting points within the conservation area includes Binalong Bay, Sloop Reef and Eddystone Point among others.
