See the church built on the site of Virgin Mary’s house where the Archangel Gabriel announced that she would bear the Messiah.
The crown jewel of Nazareth, the Basilica of the Annunciation is one of the largest and most impressive churches in the Middle East, standing majestically at 59 metres tall. The sacred church will greet visitors with an elegant statue of Mary at the entrance. See the inspiring cupola designed as an inverted lily, topped by a prominent lantern, which symbolises the Light of the World.
At the front door of the church, admire the intricate carvings detailing the trials and tribulations of the life of Jesus Christ. Also, look out for the exquisite reliefs of Mary, Gabriel and the four evangelists, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John on the cream-coloured limestone façade and the splendid bronze statue of Jesus above them. Step inside the church to see the grand highlight, which is the sunken grotto housing the traditional cave-home of the Virgin Mary.
