Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art (Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona)

Admire contemporary artworks from the 60s until today.

Designed by American architect Richard Meier (born 1934) and inaugurated in 1995, the Museu d'Art Contemporani de Barcelona (Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art) houses contemporary artworks dating back to the mid-20th century. Currently holding more than 5,000 pieces, it features works by renowned contemporary artists like Antoni Tàpies (1923 – 2012), Paul Klee (1879 – 1940) and Zush/Evru (born 1946). Three periods of modern art are represented here: from the 40s to 60s, 60s to 70s, and contemporary. Although the exhibits largely focus on Catalan and Spanish art, the works of international artists like Mario Merz (1925 – 2003) can also be seen here. The beautiful architecture of the building, which was built with strong references to the Modernist style, is also worth taking time to admire.
