Bao Dai’s Palace

A palace fit for a king (and his family).

Ever wondered how Vietnamese royalty in the 20th century lived? All your questions can be answered at Bao Dai’s Palace in Dalat, Vietnam. Commissioned in the 1930s by King Bao Dai, the monument is two floors high, and has a staggering 25 rooms.

Fashioned in the Art Deco architectural style, this palace gives you a taste of French architecture, right here in Vietnam and is a tribute to the nation’s colonial past. While this once functioned as a summer home for the royal family, it then became their permanent office and home in the 1950s once the French returned to Vietnam.

The lower floor is where the king worked and entertained guests in the guest and receptions rooms, while the upper floor was the family’s living quarters. You can find some lovely art pieces around, such as a white bust of King Bao Dai, and an engraved glass map of Vietnam. Get the inside scoop on the regal life by making your way to Bao Dai’s Palace.
