Bank of England and Museum

Where finance and history collide.

Museum hunters this one’s for you. While you have probably been to umpteen art or cultural museums, a bank museum might pose a refreshing change. The Bank of England museum does just that. While the museum itself was only established in 1988, it takes you through the journey of one of the world’s most important bank’s history, from its inception in 1694. Learn about the origins of paper money at the Banknote Gallery, step into the old world in the reconstruction of the bank’s 18th-century offices in the Stock Office, or learn about the importance of the national bank during World War I in the Rotunda – the choice is yours. Do note that they are closed on weekends, so plan your visit for weekdays.
