Balos Beach

A beach so alluring that even Prince Charles and Princess Diana spent some time here.

Located about 17km northwest of Kissamos, Balos Beach is captivating. It is hardly surprising, considering the endless snow-white sand, turquoise waters and the natural beauty of its surrounding landscape. With calm and shallow waters, the sea is perfect for young children to wade or swim in.

Keep an eye peeled for the fascinating baby pink sand in parts of the pristine waters, formed by millions of small crushed shells. Snorkel amongst friendly fishes and you might chance upon a loggerhead sea turtle if you are lucky. The wider area of the lagoon is host to various rare species of flora and fauna and you may find falcons and cormorants nesting in the caves. Keep an eye out for monk seals that seek shelter at this beach. Be sure to drop by this stunning beach for an experience like never before! It is not called Crete’s most-photographed beach for nothing.
