Bait Al Zubair

The stronghold of traditional Omani culture.

No trip to Oman is complete without a visit to the Bait Al Zubair Museum. Treasures of Omani culture rest in the pristine walls of an elegant building, which was once the home of the Zubair family. In fact, the Zubair family still owns the house and museum, dedicated to keeping their culture alive through curating items and organising exhibitions.

In the main building, you can find treasures of Omani culture. There are antique firearms and exquisite khanjars, a ceremonial dagger and a symbol of the country’s history and pride. You can also see traditional household items like coffee pots, kohl containers, and a range of traditional dress and jewelry.

When you’re finished taking in the museum’s collection, step outside to the surrounding gardens to catch a glimpse of the lifestyle of historic Oman in the recreation of a traditional Omani village, fully equipped with barasti hut, an ancient irrigation system called a falaj and several stone huts.
