A gargantuan Buddha statue that allows you to explore the levels leading to enlightenment.
One of the most significant landmarks in Taiwan, Baguashan is an awe-inspiring gargantuan monolith of a Buddha standing tall and proud, watching over the country. Standing at a whopping 24 metres tall, this Great Buddha Statue is one of the tallest in Asia, with its interior entirely hollow and split into six levels.
Each of the above-mentioned levels depict a different aspect of Buddha’s life before he reached enlightenment. This incredible statue is not just absolutely majestic to behold, but it also serves to narrate the tale of Buddha’s journey. This ‘exhibition’ of sorts allows visitors to embark on a similar journey by ascending the six levels, with each level boasting a series of life-size statues to aid in depicting Buddha’s story.
On your way up to the highest point, don’t miss out on the statue of the Taoist God of War - Guan Yu. The statue bares a golden face and a weapon weighing a whopping 64kg! Once you reach the peak, mesmerizing, panoramic views of the Taiwanese landscape wait greet your eyes. The view from the top is exceptional during sunrise and sunset as you encounter the first and last rays (respectively) of the golden sun bathing the city in hues of gold.
