As indelible proof of the Roman Catholic Diocese’s devotion to their faith, the Baclayon Church, or The Church of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, is the second oldest stone church in the Philippines dating from 1717. The coral stone church was only completed in 1727, and has served as a National Historical Landmark of the Philippines since 1994.

The interior of this architectural masterpiece is beautifully adorned with paintings and murals of images related to Christ, such as the “Ascension of our Lord” and “Pentecost”, creating awe and wonder in all who visit this peaceful and serene religious site of attraction. Other highlights within the church include the Baroque and Neoclassical pulpit located on the right side of the church, an altar with gold decorated carvings, and a silver tabernacle dating from 1810. Visitors should also not miss exploring the quadruple bell tower, the mortuary chapel, and the adjacent old convent, which is currently home to the church’s ecclesiastical museum whilst at the Baclayon Church.
