An ancient plaza that finds new life in music and popular culture.
Bab Makina Plaza in Fes is a majestic stone square surrounded by high stone walls complete with broad ramparts. At its end is a row of three heavy wooden doors flanked by imposing square towers. If you venture into Bab Makina on a quiet day, you’ll find yourself transported back to the medieval times, when the walls were first built for the defence of the city.
The plaza is now a popular venue for music festivals. In the evenings when these music festivals are held, the square will be lit up with spectacular lights painting pictures on its stone walls and crowds of people filling up the enormous space. The ancient plaza becomes filled with life and pop culture, its walls reverberating with the latest popular music by Morocco’s very own artists.
