Australian Museum

A history lesson on the Land Down Under.

Founded in 1827, the Australian Museum is the oldest museum in the country. It has a wide array of collections encompassing the fields of natural science, natural history, anthropology, mineralogy and zoology. Furthermore, the museum has also devoted research efforts into the topic of Australia’s indigenous cultures.

Feel free to explore the permanent, temporary and touring exhibitions or get hands-on in their ‘Search & Discovery Room’. Equipped with interactive displays and all sorts of programmes to engage the audience, the Australian Museum is a must-visit regardless of age. Just remember to check online about the special exhibitions the museum has every year. These temporary exhibitions are extremely detailed and well-curated, and as such, history lovers will have a field day exploring everything here.

Tips Before You Go
The museum is highly accessible for those with disabilities, and the staff are more than happy to offer assistance if necessary. Do bear in mind that you need to pay for entry. Furthermore, it is recommended that you come slightly later in the afternoon on weekdays. This is because schools often visit this place for excursions on weekday mornings, while families visit on weekends. As such, it can get really crowded at times.
