Atlantic Beach

Sand, surf and everything you’d expect of a postcard perfect American summer vacation.

When the first Native American tribes settled by the ocean front for a year-long settlement site, little would they have suspected the transformation of the area several centuries later. Slowly but surely, the canvas tents will disappear to eventually be taken over by the Pioneers and finally tourist establishments. The outcome will be 2 miles of white sands as the perfect family vacation and road trip destination by the borders of Jacksonville.

Beach pavilions and umbrellas serve as shelter against the heat as the waves tumble forward as barrels and towering chariots against the shore. At Hannah Park, the ocean is a behemoth monster to be challenged and overcome as surfers approach it by the dozens undaunted. Winding cycling lanes allow for a breezy tour of Atlantic Beach’s northern border as you peddle away. It isn’t just sand and seas that the city prides itself upon but its carefully preserved marshland. Through the tangled roots and birdsong at Dutton Preserve, paddle boards drift along, the boardwalks alongside perfect for an idyllic stroll. As the sun sinks below sunset pier to drench the waters in a dozen hues of vermillion and pink, a sigh escapes your lips for who could ask for a better get-away from the city?
