Asam Church (Asamkirche)

An architectural masterpiece of the Baroque style.

Constructed in the 17th century, Asamkirche in Munich was originally built for the purpose of the Asam brothers having a private place to worship. However, the Church’s authority claimed the church upon construction and declared it open to public. Now, it is easy for churches and chapels to all meld into one blur when travelling through Europe, and Asamkirche may not look all that impressive or memorable from the outside.

Nevertheless, it is an absolute must-visit as the moment you step through its beautiful gates, visions of Baroqueian grandeur marvel you. Vistas of gold, frescoes and incredible opulence greet you. This incredibly designed church stands as an icon of Baroque and it is definitely one that will not be easily forgotten. So for architecture buffs, or those just looking to have their breath taken away by sheer magnificence of a place, Asamkirche in Munich has your name on it.
