Arquebus War History Museum is one of Norway’s largest, showcasing artefacts from the resistance during WWII. It spans over 200 square metres and takes visitors through a dramatic journey of the Norway’s occupation on April 1940 all the way till its liberation in 1945.
You get to step back in time and experience everyday life. Experience first hand the contribution of the merchant marine navy, the home front, weapon drops and radio transmissions via their respective roles and responsibilities. The museum showcases 125 mannequins dressed in full wartime regalia with equipped coastal defence and the German defeat in Berlin, a fascinating spectacle of the different uniforms employed and how they served their functions.
Should you choose to spend ample time at the musuem, you will get well acquainted with significant parts of Norway’s WWII history. Indeed, the exhibitions here cover important aspects of the Norway’s role in WWII, including the 1940-battles, and some of the exhibitions even reporduce the events that occurred, on a much smaller scale of course! A special exhibition named ‘Der Untergang’ showcases the Allies’ victory in Europe and the German defeat in Berlin in 1945.
