Aquarium of Rhodes

A research centre, aquarium and museum all-in-one!

The Aquarium of Rhodes is a three-in-one research centre, aquarium and museum situated in Rhodes, Greece. It was established in the 1930s when the island still came under the Italian rule but today, the aquarium comes under the administration of the National Centre of Marine Research. The building was conceptualised by architect Armando Bernabiti between 1934 and 1935 and was first named the Reale Instituto di Ricerce Biologiche di Rodi when it first commenced operations.

The aquarium sits at the basement of the building and the corridors are designed to mirror an underwater cave. The tanks at each side of the corridor are filled with over 80,000 litres of filtered seawater to provide a conducive environment for the wide variety of sea life, ranging from sea anemones to crabs, sea turtles and dolphins. Head to the petting pool where you can pet some of the fishes! A great place to learn about the marine life in our world, the aquarium here is informative and home to a wide variety of marine life.
