Ånderdalen National Park displays Northern Norway’s diverse terrain, unique wildlife and rich history.
Spanning a huge area of 125 km2, Ånderdalen National Park preserves the natural landscape, wildlife and plant life of coastal Northern Norway. From flatlands cloaked in vegetation to sparkling fjords and majestic cliffs plunging sharply into the sea, the park contains all of Northern Norway’s unique geological features. Its pine and birch forests, covered in a lush carpet of alpine plants, are home to a variety of animals such as birds, foxes and even reindeers! The rivers and fjords are equally alive with salmon, trout and seals. If you are lucky enough, a walk in the park will being you face-to-face with a curious hare or reindeer peeking out at you.
Ånderdalen National Park has great historical and cultural value as well. Some of its oldest forests have stood for more than 600 years. Remains of houses and tools show that it has long been inhabited since the Stone Age, and that it was once home to both the Sami tribe and Norwegians. This beautiful park is a feast for the senses and all visitors to Senja should spend a day, or even a night, at Ånderdalen National Park.
