Ancient Wetland Park

Amazing scenes await you the Ancient Dian Kingdom Culture Tourism Town.

Opened to the public in November 2015, the Tourism Town, set against the backdrop of the mesmerizing Dian (or Dianshi Lake), aims to provide a historical journey into the fishing and boating region in an effort to reclaim and promote the biodiversity lost in the 20th century. With a 5.6km walkway going through almost a square kilometre of wetlands, the park showcases plants common to the marshy region like water lilies and willows. With many sights to see and sheltered rest spots, the Tourism Town and its Wetland Park poses as a nice and leisurely hike for the whole family.

There are also boats that bear semblence to the warships in the ancient Dian Kingdom available for lake cruises. Though the Dian Kingdom existed around the same time as the Eastern Zhou Dynasty between 770 and 221 BCE, they had their own culture and traditions. Believed to be formed through an alliance of tribal groups centred around the huge 298sq km Dian lake, the Dian people specialised in bronze works and evidence of ther craftsmanship can be found in the many museums lfound in the region.

The Tourism Town, different from a museum, aims to depict the times in a more hands-on way, and not through artefacts. The wetland park, one of the few around the area, aims to conserve the biodiversity, much of which was lost due to misguided government-led farming practices in the 20th century. Here, you get a first-hand glimpse into the conservation and reforestation efforts!
