Amer Fort

Surround yourself with beautiful Indian architecture at this fantastic fort.

Crafted with red and white sandstone, the Amer fort in Jaipur is a must visit for architecture fans. Perfectly combining Rajput and Hindu styles of architecture, the 16th century fort was built by Maan Singh, a general during the Akbar’s reign of the Mughal Empire. The fort itself has many structures within. The Diwan-i-Aam (Hall of Public Audience) is a large hall, surrounded by decorated pillars, that was used for Kings to entertain important guests, and even address the common folk. Opposite this is the Sukh Mandir (Hall of Pleasure), a lovely hall made with sandalwood and ivory, used as a relaxation spot for royalty. The Sheesh Mahal, covering with flower carvings and glass paintings is perhaps the most beautiful spot within the fort, and its reflective properties must definitely be seen. The Amer fort is truly a beautiful piece of Indian architecture that you have to explore when in Jaipur.
