In honor of King Vittorio Emanuele II.
Let your jaws drop when you witness the grandeur of the Corinthian columns, reminiscent of Acropolis’ Temple of Nike or marvel at the stateliness of the stairways. Designed by Giuseppe Sacconi in 1885, other impressive features include two fountains with sculptures of the Lion of San Marco, the wolf of Rome and Partenope, the siren which alludes to the Adriatic and Tyrrhenian coasts. Gape at the majestic statues of the King and the Goddess Victoria riding on quadrigas, which tower at 81m, or pay tribute to the ‘Milite Ignoto', an Italian soldier who died in WWI. Additionally, catch the temporary art exhibitions at the ‘Risorgimento Museum', located at the base of Vittoriano. Perhaps the icing on this ‘wedding cake', as the locals endearingly call it, is the panoramic view of Rome from the top. Accessible by two glass lifts, feast your eyes on the Colosseum, Rome and Imperial Rome.
