Gaze at the only surviving example of Almoravid architecture in Marrakesh!
The Almoravid Koubba is the oldest building in Marrakech, having been built in 1117. It remains the only example of architecture from the Almoravid Berber dynasty to survive thus far in Marrakesh. Marvel at the Koubba’s revolutionary and innovative design for its time, with its state-of-the-art hydraulics and drainage systems surely ahead of its time, allowing for worshippers of the mosque to have access to clean water for toilets and showers.
The interior of the Almoravid Koubba is beautifully furnished. The walls of the structure are adorned with floral patterns and calligraphy that till date are still in pristine condition. Evidently, much of the architecture depicts Moroccan influences, with the prayer room’s square and star-shaped octagon sure to catch your eye. This small, two-storey kiosk may seem unassuming at first but we assure that this marble and stone structre will be a treat to your eyes once you step inside it!
