Adler Planetarium

Come here to learn more about what’s outside the world we live in.

Ever gazed at the night sky and wondered about the stars and their constellations? The Adler Planetarium is dedicated to uncovering the secrets of astronomy and astrophysics, with answers for you. And even if you’ve never been interested in science or found it boring, its mission is to inspire exploration and understanding of the universe, or at least however much is possible in our limited human understanding. The planetarium itself looks like something out of a science fiction movie, with a great glass dome that belongs to the Doane Observatory. This is the only place that the public can observe the planets, galaxies and stars up close in person, from the comfort of the city. Declared a National Historic Landmark in 1987, its dream-like space and wealth of exhibits is sure to make any space geek cry, and perhaps inspire even the ordinary visitor.
