See the magnificent monument of Adam Mickiewicz and learn about its fascinating past.
One of the most prominent bronze monuments in Poland, the statue of Adam Mickiewicz stands proudly at the heart of the Old Town of Kraków. Dedicated to the much revered Polish Romantic poet of the 19th century, the statue was unveiled in 1898, on the 100th anniversary of his birth. It is interesting to note that ironically, Adam Mickiewicz had never even set foot in Kraków, it was only 35 years after his death that his remains were brought from Paris to the crypts of the Wawel Cathedral. See the imposing monument and appreciate the four allegoric groups symbolising 1. The Motherland 2. Science 3. Courage and 4. Poetry at the poet’s feet. Look out for the inscription on the pedestal which reads: To Adam Mickiewicz, the Nation.
