An interactive exhibition about the pop group ABBA in Stockholm.
The international community may joke about Sweden’s biggest exports to the global stage being IKEA and the pop group ABBA. Yet, it seems that local Swedes identified with this conception too, or at least Ulf Westman and Ewa Wigenheim-Westman did. In 2006, the 2 Swedes came up with an idea to open a museum dedicated to ABBA, similar to the one in Liverpool for The Beatles. It took many years of planning and finally opened in 2013 and has been a big hit, just like ABBA themselves!
The museum is home to the ABBAWORLD exhibit that toured Europe and Australia between 2009 and 2011. It also showcases interactive and fascinating displays such as Benny's Piano, a self-playing piano connected to the one Benny Andersson possesses at his personal home, playing when he plays his piano. The Waterloo exhibit recreates the city of Brighton at the time when ABBA won the Eurovision 1974, one that propelled them to stardom! The museum has also made successful recreations of the studio from which they recorded their music, the originial site where the group first met and even a phone that only the four members of ABBA know the number to. On top of that, fans can use the many audiovisual exhibits to learn more about ABBA and even play and perform their music. ABBA has even donated some of their stage costumes and instruments to their museum!
